Lars von Trier hat zugegeben, dass er nahezu jedes Drehbuch zu seinen Filmen unter Einfluss von Drogen und Alkohol geschrieben hat. Angeblich musste er am Tag eine Flasche Vodka trinken, damit er seine gesamte Kreativität ausnutzen konnte. Nach dem Entzug betuert er, dass er vielleicht nie mehr in der Lage ist Filme zu machen.
