8x1 – Auf eigene Faust

The armed robbery in the port may be the work of the two masked men with Icelandic accents who shot heavily injured Birgit Theede's barkeeper nearby a few days earlier. Birgit's ailing pub seems barely worth robbing. Birgit's son Nils Theede, a Hamburg police detective, returns to his native Wismar, eager to show to understaffed local police how it's done in the big city, but finds especially haughty Katrin utterly uncooperative, calling Nils Theede prejudiced. Reuter's team will find him competent and of unexpected future relevance.

In his mother's pub, commissioner Nils Theede 'rescues' customer Lili Zöllner from obnoxious Ralf Jessen, but declines her flirtation, focusing on busser Christina Drew. Thorsten's action to increase wildlife protection in the Baltic made enemies of many fishermen, possibly even his brothers Björn and Robert Rochow, with whom he bickered over the inherited fishing boat, which Niels finds used for illegal quota excess, and fish shop run by high-pregnant sister in law Franziska, who hides her own secret. Holger Kracht invested every cent in a new aquaculture-site which Thorsten wanted forbidden on account of a protected species.

Members of the "Steinzeitfreunde Wismar" Stone Age reenactment society are shocked to find after their summer feast their fatally clubbed president Holger Dressel. All state he was the popular head of a harmonious club, except Gesine Uhl who reports back stage strife, as the Neolithic Village was near bankrupt and dependent on an anonymous sponsor, which last minute assured Holger Dressel's reelection standing against treasurer Sandra Scholl's husband Ronny, while Sandra Scholl had an affair with Holgerl.

Sailing instructor Marius dies on the spot in the marina, his girlfriend Birthe Bruckner is fighting in hospital after they both drunk from the same bottle of cyanide-poisoned sports tonic. 'Fat' Natalie Stenwald (17) denies claims from several sailing club girls she bombarded Marius with hostile phone calls, but she definitely bickered with him in the club. Peter Brockmann and Jan Unger fight for their life, also having drunk poisoned gin at Unger's home. Estonian detective Urmas Savi, to Lena's Finnish taste, arrives by civilian car to help the investigation, as the trio was questioned with two more colleagues in the case of the suspicious fall to death of a brothel girl on their trip. The team works out who covered up what.

Swedish private museum director Hendrik Sjöström has a dark past, and financial troubles, which seem solved as the insurance must pay out when the car is found as a burnt wreck. Henriette Schäfer was skull-smashed, apparently by a robber, when she sneaked back home from hospital to feed her beloved cage birds. Her businesslike son Holger says the loot from the ably opened safe is about 250 000 Euro as she mistrusted banks. Weakling second son Valentin Schäfer, utterly dominated by his Italian wife Gianna, received capital from Henriette to buy Pietro Moldani's ice creamery. The team investigates their family problems and diagnosis, involving nurse Anton Stark.
