Nach einem Streit mit seinem Schwager Gunther Cordes findet man den Wagen von Hans Fürst in einem Fluß. Die Kommissare Hinrichs und Diekmann vermuten, Hans Fürst sei tot, die Leiche weggespült. Bei ihren Ermittlungen stoßen die Beamten auf schwere Spannungen zwischen den Mitgliedern der Familie Cordes. Frau Cordes ist kurz zuvor nach langer Krankheit gestorben. Die Ehe des Sohnes Jan mit Betsy steht vor dem Ruin. Hans Fürst, der Bruder der Toten, hat als Arzt diese behandelt und auch den Totenschein ausgestellt. Hat sein Verschwinden oder sein Tod damit etwas zu tun ?...
